Anthony Ty

Anthony Ty is a pianist, teacher, and accompanist based in the Chicagoland area. His journey with the piano was first inspired not by traditional classical training, but by watching YouTubers and Twitch music streamers perform intricate arrangements of music from his favorite video games and movies. This passion led him to classical piano training in high school, where he discovered a love for composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms, and Joe Hisaishi. Now, he shares that inspiration with others, both through teaching and live-streaming weekly on Twitch, where he has accumulated thousands of followers and over one million total views. His recent live performances include recitals at DePaul University and Pianoforte Studios.

Beyond performance, Ty is a dedicated educator with a deep passion for teaching. His teaching philosophy was shaped by his high school band director, who believed that learning music was not just about mastering an instrument but about developing character. He now runs his own piano studio, serving both in-person and online students worldwide, and also teaches at the Northwestern Music Academy.

Ty is actively involved in the professional music community. He serves as the Digital and Social Media Chair for the Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the field of piano education. He is also an active member of the Northshore Music Teachers Association, serving as the Social Media Chair and Corresponding Secretary, and contributes to the Illinois State Music Teachers Association (ISMTA) as the Digital Resources Chair, overseeing a platform that allows teachers to share their work and learn from one another. He has presented at the 2023 National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP) and the 2025 MTNA online conference, TEMPO. Additionally, he has been published in the acclaimed Piano Magazine.

Ty earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from DePaul University, studying under George Vatchnadze. His mentors in piano pedagogy include Susanne Baker, Jennifer Cohen, Maria Irabagon, and Susan Osborn.

Outside of music, Ty enjoys traveling with his family, checking out new cafes and restaurants, and playing board games.
